I got a car in my name for a friend and they totaled it?

I got a car in my name he paid the payments and I thought he was paying car insurance but he was not he got into a car wreck with a street light and totaled the car i recently found out that i have a judgement against me from the car company and bank for the total of the car what do I do to get hum to pay the judgement it is for 8000 and it is preventing me from getting a place to live i have a child on the way and i live in Springfield Ohio
