Why is the New Age movement more alive than ever, when it should have perished long ago?

We see that the work of New Agers like Edgar Mitchell, Shirley McClain, Carl Jung, Robert Muller, Barbara Hubbard, James Van Praagh, Elizabeth Cooper Ross, etc. .. leading the mainstream into more psychic medium and scientology BS than at any time previously. Heck there's even a new show named Medium with Patricia Arquette. Does anyone really believe in "familiar spirits" and this whole New Age, eastern mysticism? Or is it all just pure religious entertainment to them with no basis in reality whatsoever?
