What is touch-less car towing?

My car was towed and after I got it back it made a loud humming noise whenever I turned on the A/C or fan. I took it to the mechanic and they told me the shield that covers the air compressor was dented, probably due to improper lifting or jacking when the tow truck took it away. I called the tow truck company and they said it was impossible that they caused the damage because they use touch-less tow. What the hell is touch less tow? Is it possible they could not have caused the damage because the issue with the fan happened right after I picked up the car from the tow yard.
