Is it morally acceptable to experiment on non-human animals to develop products and medicines that benefit hum?

Yep. We do it all the time. If you think it's wrong, then you need to stop using soap, cosmetic products, shampoo, any sort of medication, and stop eating processed food. All it was tested on animals for your safety. That doesn't involve having to kill the animal, although sometimes it happens (yet another reason to be happy they tested it on rats first - it's not like we don't kill rats for other reasons). Everyone claiming it's immoral and then using the results of it is a hypocrite. Oh, and those companies that claim 'not tested on animals'? They paid another company to do the animal testing for them. It was tested on animals, just not by the company selling it.
